Books for the Banned

As you may or may not know, multiple states have banned public school teachers from teaching Critical Race Theory in schools. Critical Race Theory (CRT) “is an academic movement of civil rights scholars and activists in the United States who seek to critically examine the law as it intersects with issues of race and to challenge mainstream liberal approaches to racial justice.”

Robbing children of knowledge should be criminal, a violation of the First Amendment, and yet, it is not. However, one way to counter this is to supply teachers and students with non-fiction and historical fiction middle grade and young adult works that tackle all aspects of Black American history—the good, the bad, and especially the ugly.
